Sadly, the Barbara Dickson event has been cancelled due to ill health.

From singing to the postman when she was less than two years old to her annual sell-out tours in the 2000s, Barbara Dickson has been captivating fans for almost sixty years. She will describe the joys of growing up in Fife in the fifties, of moving to Edinburgh at seventeen to find her place in the world, and the struggle to make a living on the Scottish folk scene.

Barbara became Scotland’s bestselling solo artist in the 70s and 80s with huge hits such as the best-selling ever female duet ‘I Know Him So Well‘, ‘January February’, and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’. However she was not content with only a successful singing career, and turned to acting. A regular on prime-time television, including guest residency on The Two Ronnies, Barbara also took to musicals, making Willy Russell’s legendary Blood Brothers her own.

Her time onstage earned her many accolades but her pursuit of perfection lead to complete exhaustion from which she fought hard to recover, going on to win Best Actress in Spend, Spend, Spend.

In conversation with the BBC’s Allan Little, Barbara’s story is warm, fascinating and above all the story of an ordinary woman with an extraordinary voice as told in A Shirt Box Full of Songs.
